Yarra is made up of three wards - Langridge Ward, Melba Ward and Nicholls Ward. Each ward has three Councillors who are democratically elected for a four year term. Fitzroy Legal Service

The Fitzroy Legal Service is one of the oldest community legal centres in Australia, opening in 1972. Fitzroy Legal Service provides casework to clients in their catchment area and plays a significant role in the areas of law reform and community legal education, which is closely bound up with the practice of preventative law, demystification of the law, self-help and empowerment.
Fitzroy Legal Service also has a long history of running public interest cases. The experiences from the casework practice inform the law reform and community legal education activities of the organisation.

The Brotherhood of St Laurence
Established during the Great Depression, the Brotherhood of St Laurence was the vision and creation of Fr Gerard Tucker, a man who combined his Christian faith with a fierce determination to end social injustice. The Brotherhood has developed into an independent organisation with Anglican and community links. Today, they continue to fight for an Australia free of poverty.
St. Vincent's Health
St. Vincent's Health provides acute medical and surgical services, aged care, diagnostics, rehabilitation, allied health, mental health, palliative care and residential care.
St. Vincent's Health owns and manages St. Vincent's Hospital Caritas Christi Hospice, Prague House and St. George's Health Service.
St. Vincent's Hospital in Melbourne opened in 1893. It provides adult medical, surgical and mental health services and a range of community and outreach services. The Hospital is a major teaching, research and tertiary referral centre. The main campus of St. Vincent's is in Fitzroy, bounded by Victoria Parade, Nicholson Street, Fitzroy Street and Gertrude Street.

Fitzroy Learning Network places priority on assisting people in the community who lack opportunities to access learning, working in ways which build links between them and other members of the community. In particular they assist:
- Non-English speaking migrants, refugees, temporary protection visa holders and asylum seekers and any other people who want or need to learn English and acquire basic literacy skills in English
- People who are isolated and haven't the skills or opportunities to participate in social networks; older people; the unemployed; people on low-incomes
- Students at risk of dropping out of school too early
- People lacking opportunities to access new technology
- People who need to develop new skills
